DCM110 A Designerly Perspective on IoT
Through weekly exercises and a team project, we designed Heat Aura, an IoT concept for adjusting a home’s temperature and light through rich, intuitive interaction. I shaped some of the artifacts and sketches and realised the physical products by modelling and 3D printing them. The team worked through how the devices should communicate and how interaction should feel.
The course sharpened my C&A, working through form, function, and affordances across four iterated artefacts showed me that intuitive interaction is not found in one design but refined through it. It also showed me that rich interaction brings emergent functionalities, behaviours that surface only once devices interact, and handling them well is a design challenge itself. Grounding each iteration in feasibility kept my T&R tied to what could be built.
